Joel Nuttall

Senior Tax Manager

Joel began his career in private client tax in 2015, completing his ATT and CTA qualifications and training at Mercer & Hole in London. He subsequently worked in Grant Thornton’s Private Advisory team in Manchester before joining AAB in Leeds, where he advised high-net-worth individuals on complex UK and international tax matters and their associated compliance obligations. Joel joined Trident Tax in September 2026.

Joel specialises in advising individuals and trustees on a broad range of direct tax matters, including income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax. His experience includes UK tax residence and relocations, offshore structures, and inheritance tax and estate planning.

Joel has also undertaken a number of voluntary disclosures to HMRC relating to historic tax liabilities arising from UK and non-UK trust structures, and advised on the tax implications of divorce proceedings. More recently, he has focused on the Foreign Income and Gains (FIG) regime and associated transitional provisions introduced from 6 April 2025, as well as the inheritance tax implications of the revised long-term UK residence rules.

Joel takes a practical approach to complex tax matters, helping clients understand their obligations and navigate an increasingly complex tax regime.
