Nigel Brown – Senior Manager
Nigel has spent more than twenty-five years in the tax profession, and more than eighteen of those with “Big 4” firms. His professional training was with Touche Ross where Nigel obtained his Chartered Tax Adviser qualification. Nigel later joined KPMG, where he began to specialise in HMRC investigations and disputes. Nigel spent seven years with Grant Thornton’s Disputes Team before joining Trident in May 2019.
Nigel has considerable experience in dealing with all types of civil HMRC interventions, from routine aspect enquiries to cases of serious tax fraud, including investigations conducted under both COP 8 and COP 9. Nigel has also assisted taxpayers subject to HMRC criminal investigations. As a specialist in those areas, his clients rely on his expertise to help them make prompted and unprompted disclosures to HMRC to secure the best possible outcomes. He has significant experience in helping taxpayers negotiate the complexities of the various HMRC disclosure opportunities and has helped clients regularise underpayments of tax associated with both offshore and onshore assets, together with various forms of unsuccessful tax planning.
